minutes into days turn into months turn into years
they hurry by me
still I love to see the sun go down and the world go around
dreams full of promises, hopes for the future, I’ve had many
dreams I can’t remember now
hopes that I’ve forgotten, faded memories
still I love to see the sun go down and the world go around
and I love to see the morning as it steals across the sky
I love to remember and I love to wonder why
and I hope that I’m around so I can be there when I die
when I’m gone
I hope that you will think of me in moments when you’re happy and you’re smiling
and that the thought will comfort you on cold and cloudy days if you are crying
that you’ll love to see the sun go down and the world go around
and around and around
- John Denver, “around and around”
I know it’s true that where we start from, we return to again and again. Like a ring, a circle with no beginning and no end, we revisit what was on our way to what is yet to be. More like a spiral than a closed loop, each time around the circle gives us more insight, deeper understanding, acceptance and desire to create anew.
Many thoughts and even more emotions are working their way round and around for me these days as I pack and repack. I read notes written by my parents with the steady hand of their younger years; I smile at my babies and recall the day the photos were taken; put away old pains and regrets; consider the doorways opening to children, grandchildren and to myself. Endless possibilities for savoring another circle round the sun!
Are you noticing the days turning, the thoughts returning, the wonder of it all? Where on the circle are you today? Take time to notice. The circle moves without a break in continuity. We move as consciously as we will allow. I hope your allowing is spacious!
