This first poem Snow Angels, more thoughts about living the the last quarter:

the winter of his ninety-second year
he donned another layer for warmth
grabbed his hat and mittens
and climbed into the pile of relatives
of all ages and shapes and sizes
on an overloaded toboggan

reaching his arms up to the heavens
he laughed like an errant schoolboy
playing hooky on the first day of snow
squealing loudly in mock terror
the mass of bodies flew down the hill
through fresh white fluff and cold

dumped out at the bottom
the old man turned face up
giant snowflakes mingled with tears of joy
on flushed red cheeks
he stretched long and wide
the biggest snow angel of them all

before next dawning he lifted from
his earthly form, embracing
his angelic body complete
in the pleasures of youth and age
eternity entwining

And one day I wrote this poem using only action words, no modifiers.

      A Brief Story of Life

            INHALE

            define
            desire
            calculate
            acquire
            accumulate
            categorize
            evaluate
            disseminate
            eliminate

            EXHALE

the lifeline holding me fast
to permanence through the racing moments
you were
when the black road leading forward
had no ending and no turning back

the quiet cove holding no judgments
toward the causes of the wreckage
you were
when ocean swells rose unabated
fueled by relentless storms

the banquet table holding out to me
ample sustenance
you were
when my larder was empty
and my fires had grown cold

guardian of confessions
mender of shattered glass
planter of seeds of renewal
you were
the witness, the comforter, the celebrant
