Who is Jesus to you? Thousands of books have been written about him, thousands of sermons have been preached about him, thousands of conversations have attempted to define him.  During this Holy Week I have been asking myself, "Who is Jesus to you?"

Notice I'm not asking, "What have you learned about Jesus? What do others say about who Jesus was? What do we know about him?" These questions are impersonal, past tense and of the intellect. I'm not asking "what" but "who." Not "was" but "is." I asked all these questions this week. I thought about all that I have learned about Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday. I thought about death and resurrection and faith and denial and hope. Then on Saturday, without thinking about it, came my answer: Who is Jesus to you?

This week I have been thinking a lot about Jesus-I do not think of him as my savior but as an Avatar-a personal embodiment of God-I think his story had to be so dramatic, so disturbing to us as humans so we would pay attention and remember his messages and see how awful and how wonderful we can be as human beings. I think the story works-and have been incorporating his presence in my life as part of a long line of holy men.

Thanks, Lynette, for your comment. I think Jesus can change shape to fit our understanding while changing us and our understanding. A truly Holy Man!

I just read this tonight. Who is Jesus to you? Lynnette's comment felt intelligent and was intriguing to me. I've never thought of his story that way. Jesus has been as natural as breathing to me since I was little. He was with me. All ways. Even during the drunkest, most abusive parts of my life, I have the feeling his energy pulled me up and although I didn't believe that I should not suffer as he told me I shouldn't, he never turned away. Never quit on me. He is my guide. My sweet brother. Unconditionally loving and understanding. That is who Jesus is to me.
